The 36th Fajr International Theater Festival has expanded to stage a selected number of plays in six provinces in addition to Tehran.
For the first time this year, the Fajr theater event will have a provincial section to perform plays in six provinces, featuring a total of 17 troupes from across Iran.
The ensembles will perform in the provinces of Lorestan, Markazi, Yazd, Bushehr and Khuzestan as well as Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari – in addition to Tehran.
The event is scheduled to be held from December 30, 2017-January 2, 2018, according to Atabak Naderi, coordinating director of provincial theater at the Department of Performing Arts, Ministry of Culture.
The Fajr International Theater Festival was established in 1983. It occurs annually in Iran, featuring local and international theatrical works and performers.
The festival is held during the Fajr Decade (literally meaning ten days of dawn), which marks the anniversary of the ten days from the return of Imam Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, to Iran (February 1) until the victory day of the Islamic Revolution (February 11) in 1979.
